Xavier is 3 years, 7, months, 2 weeks and 6 days old.
Stella is 2 years, 3 months, 2 weeks and 4 days old.
Quote of the day goes to Stella. Sitting on the toilet with a finger up her nose (its gross but better than some other places she chooses to put it) she says "mummy, there's a booger up there. I can smell it!" Hilarity. Wonder what boogers smell like?
Xavier lays on the floor drawing quietly before bed, brings me his artwork to admire. I ask "can you tell me about it?" (tip I learned from Lozzy that she learned from her mum, a prep teacher, apparently gets a better response than questioning what is it?) and he tells me,
"Mum, its a letter to Santa."
"Ok, what does it say?"
"It says, Hurry up Santa!"
Random child. Think watching the Christmas Hi-5 DVD may be responsible for this gem.
In other news, a really beautiful day with the small ones. Swimming this morning (only took 45 min to get dressed after lessons, down from 1hr 15min last 2 weeks) then play center with a friend S and her boys W & R. All kids played lovely, we caught up, drank coffee and hot chocolates and blissed out.

27th May 2011
Xavier is 3 years, 7 months, 2 weeks and 3days old.
Stella is 2 years, 3 months, 2 weeks and 1 day old.
Firstly, WOW, how on earth did my babes get so old? Time really is just flying.
Xavier is just a little champ. As a 2 year old he was hard work, but I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel, and as a 3 year old is is much more enjoyable, most of the time. The love I have for him feels like an old, familiar, comfortable love. Its steady, reliable and safe. Hearing Xavier say he loves me is like being wrapped in a old warm blanket, it embracing and gentle.
Stella is a pocket rocket of fun. She is finding her voice as a 2 year old, but still essentially wants to know that you recognise and appreciate what she is doing. The love I have for her is intense, fierce and passionate. Loving Stella feels like those first years in a new relationship, where things are new and fresh. You get excited seeing them and hearing them tell you they love you too makes you tingle from head to foot.
I feel like perhaps this is the beginning of the course our loves are going to take as my babies grow into children, young adults and then adults themselves. Xavier, ever steady, considered and there. Stella intense, flighty and exciting.
Some highlights from the past few weeks, although it could easily be months with the rate time is flying by.
Adam had opened a block of chocolate and was negotiating with Xavier about how much he could have as it was just before bedtime. Stella , hand on hip, wanders into the kitchen and says "so, ummm, whats going on here guys? Yeeesssss, what is going on here?" Hilarity.
Xavier has started 3 year old kinder this year, and all reports from his teachers suggest that he is a very quiet and gentle boy. Ummm at home he is neither. A discussion in the car last week may have uncovered this contrast in his personalities. Xavier informed me that he wasn't allowed to talk at kinder. That he must sit quietly on his bottom and listen to the stories Miss B reads. Despite informing him that listening during stories was important and very good manners, he was in fact allowed to talk at other times. I also had to reassure him that I thought there were set times for stories, and that it was unlikely that Miss B was going to break into story (or song for that matter) at any given moment and he really didn't need to be on guard at all time in preparation for such an event. A chat to Miss B, then a chat between Miss B and Xavier seems to be assisting with the confusion, she informed me at pick up this week that he had talked more than she had heard before, but still not what she would consider a lot. Give him time, I say, she'll be wishing for the quiet in no time.
I love mandarins, the kids love mandarins. Today I was trying to hide one on my desk, but Miss found it. She insisted she had to peel it by 'mineself' then she broke it in half and place it either side of her head to listen to it. Then sniffed deeply and announced, "mummy, it smells delicious"

Ok, let's try this again shall we...
I have been contemplating coming back to this for quite some time now. But I keep finding excuses not to. I had in my head that I needed some 'special' date to start, but have come to realise that each day I wait for that special day, another day in the lives of my children passes.
I was also struggling to find the right 'voice' for this blog. Was I writing to my children, or about my children, the tense was getting all messed about and annoying me.
So I have a new plan. I'm not going to worry about grammar and how things flow and sound for now, rather I'm just going to write about the things that stand out in our day to day grind. They now say so many things that are completely hilarious, that when there 21st roll around it will be impossible to remember them all, unless I write them down somewhere.
So here is One Day at at Time. Take 2.

25th August 2010
Xavier is 2 years, 10 months, 2 weeks old and 1 day old.
Stella is 1 year, 6 months, 1 week and 6 days old.
Today the kids Aunty Sarah (Adam sister) returned to Egypt for another 12 months to complete her teaching contract. The kids have had an absolute ball having their aunty here for the last 6 weeks and I suspect she has loved spending time with them too. There have been trips to the park, lots of visits, book buying and the occasional lolly pop I'm told.
Xavier is attempting to cough up a lung this week, and managed to to spew in our bed the other night, which was charming. I cannot wait for Spring and the hopeful end to the months of constant illness.
Stella is on a mission to cut her eye teeth. Her poor bum is red raw and she is a very unhappy little madame.
Nothing of huge interest occurred today, a day at home filled with fighting and cuddles.

24th August 2010
Xavier is 2 years, 10 months and 2 weeks old.
Stella is 1 year, 6 months, 1 week and 5 days old.
It's fair to say that I have been a slack mumma blogger. And while I would like to claim its all because I only blog when the kids are being shits and they have been great, its would just be dishonest of me to make such a claim.
There is no reason for my slackness, so I hope that I can get back on track.
The big news since the last blog is that Xavier not only has given up his dummy, BUT is now fully toilet trained, day and night. No more nappies for our big boy. I would like to feel nothing but pride at his achievements, but a small part of me also realises that this is the first step in him growing further from being my baby and into his own little person, and that makes me a little bit sad.
Stella has 100% mastered the art of walking and even manages the odd run too. Compared to Xavier at the same age, she doesn't talk much, and by talk I mean using real words that other people can understand, but there is a great deal of babbling and telling off that comes from her little pouted lips. But then, at her age, Xavier was barely walking, so I guess we can cut her some slack.
While fights are still common place in our house, there are more and more times where I catch them playing nicely together. A new morning routine has been established, Xavier arrives in bed with me, not long after Adam leaves for work, then tries his best to lay still and let mumma get some more rest, but at some point this all gets too much so he flies out of bed and into Stella's room before I have the chance to notice his plans and stop him. He climbs into bed with her for a little while and the 2 of them chat away until the fighting starts. At that point I go and collect them both and bring them back to bed with me, Stella has her morning breastfeed, while Xavier jumps up and down begging her to "Come play with Xavier, pleeeaaassssseeeeeeeee Stella". When she is done with boobies, off she goes and the two of them create havoc until I drag myself out of bed or until Xave comes in to declare he needs breakfast or Stella brings me my slippers as her way of saying get out of bed woman and feed us...
Xavier's current favourite toy is Stella's Cabbage Patch Doll, Macey, she was a first birthday present for Stella but her chance to even play with her was very short lived. Xavier laid eyes on her and she was his. To try and combat the fights that this creates, a new Cabbage Patch Doll was purchased for Stella (second hand from a baby market). Dolores (the name she came with) was welcomed into our home and the loving arms of.. yep, Xavier. The sad part is that poor Macey, has been given the flick and Xavier is now enamoured with the new blonde baby in the house. Good news is that Stella has now reclaimed her Macey back.
Despite the number of dolls that live in our house, Stella's favourite is still most definitely her bunny. The first time she was placed in her cot unwrapped she reached for him and the love has grown from that moment on. Bunny sleeps with her every night, he comes in the car (although at this point I can still convince her to leave him there when we get out so he doesn't get lost), he shares her boobies, and many a tear is shed when he enters the washing machine for his weekly wash. I tried to get some more 'bunnies' but when they arrived all the way from the UK, as original bunny did, they were not the same and boy-oh-boy did madame notice. New bunnies were cast aside like trash.
I think that is enough for now, I will endeavour to keep on top of this blog, as my babies, you are growing up all to quickly before my eyes, and I want to savour it all... honest I do.
Oh wanted to add that little miss had her 18 month injections today and was a dream, not so much as a cry or whimper. My brave girl.

4th March 2010
Xavier is 2 years, 4 months, 3 weeks and 1 day old
Stella is 1 year, 2 weeks and 6 days old
Today Xavier has been exercising the use of his newest word... NEED
Mummy I need more milk
Mummy I need red dummy
Mummy I need a biscuit
Mummy I need to play playdough etc etc etc
Mummy needed Xavier to stop being so demanding and play nicely.
I am finding that I tend to blog here on days that have been trying, wonder what that suggests... I guess the fact that Im not blogging daily is a good thing.
Stella's walking is coming along, while she prefers to crawl still, I have witnessed her walk across the lounge (to catch this you need to pretend you aren't looking at her or she falls on her butt) and if you stand her up she takes a few steps before packing it all in. Im sure given another week or 2 we will see more and more walking. Maybe this is how normal kids start walking, seeing as Xave was such a late walker (16 months) he really was really really ready and just took off, there was no stopping him, I guess Stels is just finding her feet so to speak in these early days.

26th February 2010
Xavier is 2 years, 4 months, 2 weeks and 2 days old
Stella is 1 year and 2 weeks old
Busy day today. We had tumble gym this morning which was great fun as always, Xavier did well and stopped playing to ask me to take him to the toilet which is a pretty big deal. Although once we got to the toilet he was much more interested in the blower (hand dryer) not coming on. For some reason he is scared of it and whinges and cries if it happens to start up... not fun for those ones that are motion sensitive as opposed to pressing the button...
After tumble gym, I out on my big girl panties and took Stella for her 12 month injections. In the past she has gone to the Dr's for them, screamed blue murder as soon as he looks at her then developed huge bruises and lumps that last for weeks afterwards. This time I decided to take her to the community center and get the nurses to do it for me. I suspect that perhaps the Dr is a bit more used to jabbing adults and is possibly a bit rough with my little possum, but I figured if she bruises and lumps after being jabbed by the nurses who do it all day everyday, she is just one of those people who lump and bruise. Well so far so good. She cried for all of 10 seconds and I haven't had the chance to check for lumpies just yet. Time will tell if we have any kind of reaction to the jabs.
We also collected our pixie photos from Stella's first birthday on the way home from jabs. And my kids are just beautiful, if I do say so myself.
Stella has taken some more steps of late, but I still wouldn't describe her as walking. She is doing more and more walking behind the walker trolley, and I'm sure in no time at all she will be running around after her brother and I will be wishing back the days of a non mobile baby.
